Tree take down at a local gas station. Honey Locust. Old enough to have thorns. Power & comm. lines coming in from two sides & a fence to make it easier. Chase up the tree doing his thing while Roger & I ran ropes & chipper. Hauled back about a cord of standing dead Locust & made a little money on the job. Cleaned up & gone by 1:30 after an 8:30 start. Not bad. No power out & no injuries.
My father planted one by the end of the driveway in my childhood home in 1972. I took a peek at it Friday night via google maps. I cannot tell you how many times we popped a tire pulling in or out not seeing the dropped thorn, and lawnmowing was dangerous if I missed on before I mowed lol. So much has changed there but the prickly juniper bushes and the darned male Honey Locust remain.
Honey locust? Looks like black locust to me? Typo? Nice work there AC & co. Cutting wood and getting paid and getting the wood too. Scotty Overkill would be proud!
Maybe? Didn't think about it too hard. I don't get much Locust here & given the relatively light color I assumed it was Honey. Black is fine too. Wasn't the nicest job with the thorns & lines, but we got it done.

I'm actually kinda interested to see how it burns in the boiler. I usually save White Oak & Sugar Maple for the real cold. It's weird because I just don't see much Locust right around me. Tree was dead & dust blowing outta the saws, so it might be ready by Jan. or Feb if needed. Thanks, and yes, there was potential for some issues there for sure. Chase is an excellent technical guy with this kind of take down. Only part that required any thinking on my end was how far to let the rope run so as not to smack him with the rigged logs coming down. He earned his pay for sure. His skills are on par with Scotty Overkill , Barcroftb , blacksmith & Squirrel94 for sure. He must've appreciated not getting pasted by the logs, he let us in on a big Ash & Elm clearing job he has coming in July. All you can cut & haul apparently. Sounds like I'll be butt deep in firewood for the year.
