I'm trying to get a Homelite C5 running so I checked the compression. I'm getting about 95 psi with the throttle wide open. What are the cutoff numbers for low compression? Thank you.
No idea what it should be but 95 seems a bit low. Shouldn't be hard to take a peek through the exhaust on that one and look for damage. My Super 1050....
I've only recently acquired a couple of saws in the range of 180 psi. They're both much smaller saws than that 1050, and starting them still requires an atypical degree of resolve. Do you just lash that starter to a medieval catapult?
Believe it or not, it's actually a pretty easy pull even though it's 100cc and no decomp valve. That's due to the large rope pulley in the starter.
I realized a large pulley was probably the answer, but a catapult seems like more fun. Does the large pulley mean that the rope (and thus the pull) is substantially longer than average, too?
I collected the old Homelites for a while.... 95 psi is too wore out to mess with in my opinion. But i had one that blew 90 psi... And it actually ran good. But i didnt put any more money into it.
Check it out, I was thinking that saw was around the 180 mark. I haven't seen a factory Homelite above 200 not to say there wasn't though. That saw is as awesome as they come though IMO. Well preserved and runs every bit as good as it looks.
Here is what I go by: 100 psi to run at all >130 to run good 150-180 to run really good. The above is for a work saw, racers sometimes are in the 130-140 range.
