I see that a lot around here in Northern Kentucky. I've wondered the same thing but there doesn't seem to be any survivors to tell the tale of the cut!
Round here we call that a farmer cut. Pretty dangerous and unpredictable. They likely haven’t been taught properly and might not care to learn.
It all depends on which way the tree fell! Ive seen that done before...not by me unless it was a sapling.
Yep, that's called the farmer cut...remember, they can do just about everything but it's not all going to be pretty.
I saw one the other day that was a real head scratcher. 18" inch stump. Made a real wedge cut, then made the back cut 100% above the wedge.
Note in the video that the tree doesn't fall where it was supposed to. It goes almost 90* from where the hinge that he cut off would have taken it... Little Bobbies hinge grade: D- and that's being plenty generous...
Wow lol. The tree will fall safely away from you, really? I would've erased that video & found another tree. We call that a farmer cut here too. Seen a few of those go wrong. Edit: I'd give him an a for hinge removal though Monte.
My brother used to do that so tree did not sit back and pinch saw. Tell hinge broke tree went backwards; crushed saw and damm near him
That is called the " Lazie Boy Barko-lounger cut " This way when you are done you can have a seat and kick back with your feet up.
I wonder how many Saturday afternoon loggers damaged property, were injured or killed by this dangerous video.
Oh good grief!! I would have NEVER posted a vid with those results as advice! That was a horrible example!!!
