Spring field work can start at any time now and I still had 8 poplar laying on a feild edge, the misses had to work for a few hours this morning so I headed out and got a truck load. Had 2 small piles already cut and just had to load then got 3 more cut up and loaded.

Still have 4 more out there to get but got a nice load for the day, heading up to 82 today so after the morning clouds started to leave it was warming up quick!

Used the husky 55 to limb and the 2071 to buck the rounds

Nice grab, looks like a fun one to process. Tall and straight and splitting will be a breeze. You can almost hear those trees dry the way they give up MC so quickly.

Agreed. I processed about 6 cords of poplar for my parents a few seasons ago and it lightened up very quick. Comparable to my experiences with silver maple.

What became of that monster SM you took down last year? That was one gnarly tree.

It was hollow. The neighbor took care of all the remains as I didn't want any.

I'm hoping so, A lot of poplar I have cut seems to be a pain to hand split.

I have 23 acres of that stuff so it’s my primary firewood. Easy to process and ready to burn in less than a year.

Ya, we have ton and tons of poplar here, lot of people don't mess with it as it has a short burn time, but I'm not picky haha.

As I was thinking, the field the trees are laying alongside was worked up Saturday afternoon and planted, so the last 3 will have to wait, may try to walk out there and get then bucked up and stacked to get after the corn comes off.

    View for the afternoon.

Just finished up with my shoulder season wood for next year. Red pine and Poplar. Warming up to Poplar, easy to split, stack, and quick to dry. Plus we have allot of it on our land.

Got my first popple/big tooth aspen a couple weeks ago. I CSS'ed it with my campfire wood. Can probably burn it in a couple months.
I wouldn't normally mess with BTA or poplars but it fell across one of my atv paths and it was a nice straight tree.
The top is still laying out in the neighbor's yard. He has a tree service, so he can chip whats left.
