I spent some time today, sorting out exactly what I have.

Green fresh cut red oak on left

A few sticks of sassafras on the right

And dead, bark-falling off red oak

I'll start with the bark-free stuff. Then sassy. I have a place for the oak to sleep for a few years.

    I spent some time CSS'ing.

Based on how difficult it is to split, I'm guessing the bark-less stuff is white oak.

Some of it is very stringy, as well. Needed to be wedged/sledged.

    Got through it, though.

The rest of the week is forecasted as being showery. We need rain. So, there'll be little done with the rest for awhile.

Getting close to closing this thread out.

I reduced the logs of fresh cut red oak, and a small maple, into rounds that'll be split later this week, probably.

It'll be split and stacked not far from there.

I used my 445 with a freshly sharpened chain. I'm becoming a new customer of a power shop and wanted to see how their sharpening was. $10/chain. I took 3 chains. I'm very pleased with the results. I smile when the saw pulls itself up tight to the log, with full throttle.

The new-to-me power shop is on rt122, in Blackstone Ma. Big Husqvarna dealer. Orange toys abound there.
