I have a former student of mine who is. Ow in his 30’s that I’ve become friends with. Our boys are both 9, go to the same school, and play on the same baseball team - in fact the other dad is the coach. He now does concrete work for a living. He had a bunch of tree cuts down around the house so one day I was over there I worked out a deal where I would cut and split the logs in exchange for him to redo my fireplace in stacked stone. I dragged the tw6 over there and am now done. He has plenty of stacking time ahead. We figure it’s around 8 cords worth and all oak. Now the Mrs. and I need to pick out the stone.

I think you got the better end of this barter Joe. I love to barter, especially when it comes to firewood, chain saws, chain saw work etc.
For old times sake did you have him help you split?

I love the barter system because each gets what they want and Uncle doesn't take any!

    Looks great all around jrider.
But I gotta be the realist... when is the guy gonna start his half? I know you said you and your wife have to pick out the stone.
A successful barter is only so when completed on both sides.....

    Oh oh......... Good point!

I hope it doesn't turn into a "I'm too busy right now" sort of barter.....

He did help one day for about two hours. I think he just wanted to see the tw6 and 6way wedge in action

Exactly! It would have taken him forever to split the wood with his single wedge splitter especially considering the size of some of the logs AND I wouldn’t know the first thing about the job he’s doing for me. I’m sure I could figure it out but it would take me forever and aggravation level would be high I’m sure.

Some was cut but not much more than 2 cords or so. Between cutting/splitting and moving the splitter, 14 hours total. I did have a helper for about 6 hours. I pay him $11 an hour.

I told him there’s no rush. It’s a job he will squeeze in when it’s raining out. I have complete trust in him

That’s because you were his teacher; my grandmother was a grade school teacher. One of her students married her daughter later in life. He never called grandma by her first name. He and his wife were both middle school teachers..
