Cutting yesterday and couldnt ID this tree. IMG_4726.JPG IMG_4727.JPG IMG_4728.JPG I had to trim a couple lower dead limbs and confirmed its oak of some kind. IMG_4730.JPG IMG_4731.JPG Found acorn remnants too. IMG_4724.JPG
Never seen an oak like this. Could be some type of hybrid???

Think so? Im wondering if the fact the are very close (quarter mile) to the ocean if it affects the color? Cant say i noticed leaves on the ground, just saw the acorns.

I think Pin Oak also, but maybe Scarlet. Leaves should confirm species.

Maybe Black Oak or a hybrid. Acorn caps are deep, buds look right and heartwood is dark.

If it's cut and in the truck we'll call it gathered oak.

Drove by a couple larger pin oaks yesterday (ones that appear to have been purposely planted) and the bark color was similar. I think this one may have been intentionally planted there.

I don’t see any medullary rays in that dead branch. No open pores/tubes either...

Acorns look kind of like Live oak. Maybe not native in your location, but maybe it was planted as you mentioned.
