I split some Ash by hand tonight after work with my X27 - it felt good although right now my arms are a bit rubbery. My eyeball math says 3/4 a face cord - what say you? I’ll feed this to the stove 3-4 winters from now. My stacks are full except for what I’ve burned this year. I started replacing the hoard in January, splitting by hand - I need the exercise and it’s good therapy. So far I’ve hand split ~ three cords with one left to go.
My wife just can't fathom when I tell her that I enjoy hand splitting and it is relaxing/therapeutic to me. I think such a big part of it is being outside and all I am thinking on is the grain of the wood and the placement of my next strike, and not all the other BS of life.
Looks like about 3/4 face cord to me and a nice little work out. People that have never hand split just don’t understand the physical/mental/emotional benefits. And I just can’t explain it to them!
Enjoy the splitting while you can. I did for many years until an injury put me down. Now I love hydraulics and still get the same feelings now that I did back then. The only difference is not as hard of work and I wear hearing protection as I have sensitive ears.
Looking good. All I do is hand split and noodle If that ax is 36" I'd say you have about half a face.
