TSC has Love Joy couplers...in case you have one close by and wanna finish today.
And that was likely just the piece that happened to be in there when it finally let go...probably been wearing for a long time.
Did it just spit the spider out, or actually broke the jaws?

No tsc any where close to me. Fleet farm has them, but that's almost an hour round trip. Not gonna happen this weekend.

I finished getting everything but the sticks off of the grass.

    Here's where it sits now.

Getting the rounds off of the grass was my main goal for this front tree this weekend. I'll probably work on brushing the big tree in back after my little break now.

A bit of a close up. I noodled the big rounds. 20210411_155330(2).jpg

I edited that last reply brenndatomu .

I'll take a look at the splitter shortly and post up. It sure looked like broken jaws of the couplers. 20210411_124339.jpg

Ok. Not ok. Well, the lovejoys at least.

Hopefully they come off. I'll soak the set screws with penetrating oil.

Both the couplers and the spider look roached.

I assume those were fine when the Predator was installed?
Might want to verify your alignment when you put the new LJ on...things will continue to tear up prematurely if its not close.

Yeah, I got them in line when I installed the predator. Haven't touched anything since, that's been a couple of years

He was more than a dog.

It seriously was as tough to split as elm. Full cycles, and when having to see another log in to get them fully split.

    True. They should.

So I was able to pull the lovejoy couplers off of the splitter. The one on the pump was stubborn. The one on the engine was new when I put the chonda on. Message_1618275722614.jpg

L075 series. 3/4" bore on the engine side, 1/2" on the pump side.

Now to find who has them. There's a Northern Tool close enough to work. Looks like they have them. Fleet farm is out of my way.. no tsc anywhere close

It looks lonely out there with no wood to split.

There's a northern tool close enough to my work. I might go after work tomorrow. L075 lovejoy series, 1/2" on the pump side, 3/4" on the motor side. I think the spider cracked and the arm on the spider not being there is what caused the demise. When I put the chonda on a couple years back, I reused the spider, and the pump side was original too. So 40 years, or so on the spider and the pump side. One of those failed, causing all to fail

The spider almost always goes first...once that's gone the hub jaws don't last very long...if it was that old then it certainly could have just cracked and fallen out...but I would still scrutinize the alignment carefully when reassembling...that's by far the most common reason for spider failure.
