Are there any woods to stay away from when noodling when the noodles would be used for chickens in a chicken coop?

I don't recall ever hearing of any not to use. If I was using any though I think I would go with lighter colored wood like ash, maple or conifers.

Stay away from Walnut for bedding, mulch or anything like that.

Pine is the most popular. Some people say not to use cedar.

I believe oak would be ok. The only 2 I'd stay away from are tree of heaven, (sumac) and walnut. IMO walnut is only a problem for potentially some nearby trees and plants. That is the short answer on walnut.

I have a friend that has chickens as well as ducks ; he has a bunch of large rounds that are too big for him to handle as they are.
We were talking yesterday and he was saying just this , he plans on spreading a tarp out and noodling them up to use for chickens and ducks.
Mostly oak and a little beech for him.

Probably best to avoid cedar and walnut.

Woodworker I know always said to avoid using walnut dust/shavings etc. He said it’s toxic to horses and other animals. I saved sawdust from gtg’s when we had chickens. It made perfect bedding for nesting boxes. There was never any walnut in there for me to worry about.

I actually wanted to get some chickens. I enjoy watching them. She said okay only if she gets a dog. We dont have chickens.

On a side note i thought BL is toxic??? I could be wrong be remember reading/hearing it somewhere.

Any pine to noodle Erik B ? I think that would work best. Just my 2c worth. I used to plane EWP boards for guinea pig bedding when i had one as a young teen.

I know rabbit can’t have cedar. So I would stay away from that. Most cedar here doesn’t get big enough to need to noodle
