It was beautiful here today with the high about 78. I spent a few hours on my hunting land clearing some fallen ash trees. Brought home a nice truck load. Also brought home a few ticks. I hate those things. I sprayed myself beforehand. Sigh.....

What do y'all use for repellent?

I've never needed to use it, but I've heard that Permethrin works

Since I've been spraying this stuff using a backpack mister, we have not seen one tick on us or the dogs when out in the yard. It also works great for mosquitos too. I spray in spring once everything leaf's out and then once more in the middle of summer.

Permethrin. Gotta have permethrin in it. I’ve been told Sawyer is the best brand. Have chronic Lyme already, don’t bother using it. Pulled the first tick yesterday,,,,from atv ride. Usually stay out of the woods once they wake up and make sure the dog gets his edibles. I’m late or they’re early.

A logger friend said the Permethrin works well and lasts 5 - 6 washings when sprayed on clothing.
I prefer to stay away the chemical insecticide/pesticide. I use a product that is all natural it is made with essential oils and applied to pulse points. Seems to do a good job keeping the ticks away.

I’m trying off brand tick repellant this year. We’ll see how it works. My wife just found a tick on one of the cats tonight. Needless to say, they just got an updated tick treatment:rofl:

So far this year it has been just some Off for skeeters and ticks but I usually spray some pants, t-shirts, long sleeve 50/50 shirts and my boots with Sawyer Permethrin. I haven't seen any ticks on me yet but I'm planning on spraying three pair of pants and a bunch of t-shirts with some Permethrin. Last year I only sprayed one pair of pants once and the rest off the time I used OFF.

I use lint rollers on my pants and shirts before I come in the house.

We put ten drops of tea tree oil in all our shampoos, body wash, and liquid hand soap dispensers. It seems to help. 1 or 2 ticks on us in the last 5 years since we started doing that and we're out in the woods a lot here.

Just enough that you can notice it, but not so much that it drives your friends away... LOL

Funny, I’m in tick central but never have a problem as long as there’s OPE involved. Not sure if it’s the fumes, vibrations or sawdust on everything but when I’m cuttin, the suckers stay away.

60 to 100% DEET! Yeah, yeah, I know, but it works and works very well.

How much of this product do you end up using in a year?

I mix about an oz+ of product to a gallon of water. My mister's tank holds about 5 gallons. I probably put about 6oz of product in. I typically refill the tank 3 or 4 times per application. So about 24oz of product per application so about 48oz per year. Seems about right, as a gallon lasts 2-3 years.

I have to agree, I think that is about the only thing that works for mosquitoes as well.
95% of the time I don't use anything just check and pick them off.

My mother used to look for bug repellent with the highest DEET content and cover us with it. I think I’m not too messed up from it! Maybe...

The bug spray that burns a little works best!
