Get a text back in December from a guy who has given me storm downed trees in his yard a couple years ago. Tree service coming in January to take a few more down plus other clean up. They never showed. He texts me recently saying they were coming soon. I went today to clean up the stuff already down. 12" DBH dead pignut hickory, red maple limbs/top and a long dead sassafras spar on his shed. Five minutes from me. Couple hours work. Back right up and load. Ants under loose hickory bark. Thought the hickory may be too bad but just bark coming off and 95% of the meat was good. Figures...mark was right where this hook was. Took it out then bucked nail i hadnt seen until i loaded. 024 & 361 cut the load All sorts of junk around. His shed was destroyed by a falling tree three years ago and he is still fighting with the insurance company. I asked about some 4x4's laying partly buried in the woods and he said take them. Old PT fence posts 8' long. Bonus to the score! Couple other blow overs. Top one hickory i want, bottom oak no. In another area of his woods and not enough time today. Trees to come down. Big red maple. (center) Red oak and another yard red maple (limb pile next to it) Took the load to storage and split it all. Hickory split easily with the Isocore. Told him to have tree guys leave trunks intact and chip 4" and smaller. Stay tuned.
Yeah. The 361 was zipping through and had it been rusty i might not have spotted the hook. My last 18"" .375 chain was thrown when i had that bar on the 500i and ended up bent!
Sweet score Brad! Can’t beat the free lumber, especially with today’s lumber prices. Have you ever cut up a blow down like that from the top down and had it stand back up once you got enough weight off the top of the tree? The only way besides climbing that I can thing of where you start with the top and then fell the trunk later
Thank you very much Mrs. Chaz . Speaking of which, how is he doing. His absence is noticed! Tell him i say hello!
The ones i cut yesterday was snapped off from a stump. The others have been down for a while so i think they wont. I have cut blow downs where the tree does lift some as i worked my way down the trunk, but never stand back up. Ive seen videos of that happening. Couple years ago i tried using a scissor jack to push a big oak blowover up higher so i wouldnt hit dirt. I ended up bending it!
Guy texted me the other day. Trees guys showed up and took them down. Wood on the ground. I stopped today to check it out. Red Maple Red oak Sugar maple I may go tomorrow or Monday and buck the wood in the yard. I worked on another blow over in his woods today. (see next post.)
Had wanted to go during the week to buck this hickory and ended up doing it today. The top was on the neighbors property so talked to him and got the okay to cut and take it. Ended up leading to another score and chain saw job. I was tak ing the hickory only. Splits not my work. 50' into woods. Luckily i can back into the yard. Still PITA to schlep out. Nearly three year old blow over and its still alive. The oak died. Both from same rootball.
Tree service in residential yard. He stopped me a couple years ago and offered me remnants of huge oak trunk from tornado May 2018. Kept me as a contact saying he would have more wood and trees taken down. Five minutes from me. He started a domino effect for scores. Got three loads from neighbor next door and now more from neighbor in back. (thread to follow by months end, i hope)
WOW , that's a great score !! I was going to shoot you a message to see what you have been up to ; Looks like you just answered that question.
