One thing this guy doesn't understand yet. The outside width between 50 ga and 63 ga bars and chain. But especially bar's are the same. The kerf width is set by the cutters of the chain . And can vary from style to style of chain. I know that most here know that. But those new to the sport of hoarding may not.
Agree, but it made me think about my motorcycle experience. In efforts to reduce mass, guys will go down in chain gauge. Would the weight of a 50 chain be slightly less than a 63? Cutters and straps being the same. Less weight for the motor to spin.
Not yet for sale in the US that im aware of. Magnesium piston, 67cc Heres a link MS 400 CM - The first chainsaw with a magnesium ... - STIHL
Is the 400 for sale in the US eipo? "Black market" import? Ive asked three OPE dealers in my area and they said no.
I got a phone call from one of the guys at my dealer because he knows I want one. Their rep called and said they would be getting 4 at the end of this week or early next and then no more until fall. This same scenario played out with the 500. A initial allotment of 2 per dealer and then it was open season until the distributor didn’t have any units left. Their distributor is Bryan Equipment in OH.
This is the first ive heard of them being for sale in the US. My dealer got two 500i's and sold them. Was able to get two more. Lady there offered to put my name on one to which i initially declined, but with the "encouragement" of the FHC i called a few days later. I was thinking it would be a couple months, but two weeks later i got the call. Got maybe 5 tanks through it. Maybe ill give them a call tomorrow about it. Do you know what the MSRP will be?
I was just viewing a Stihl UK sales video on it. Any idea of MSRP? Im guessing between a 362 and 462. $900-1000? Are you still getting a 500i Chud ? I feel my CAD flaring up again!
I do not know what MSRP will be. I will once I get it, though. Originally their rep told them not until November... they have them on order so it was a surprise to them about getting them now. Well, they dont have them yet.
I will eventually. I’ll get otd prices on 400 and 500. He will call the Stihl rep for me or I will. If I keep selling firewood it will happen sooner.
I've never seen any difference in wot rpm given the same driver count. Also, there is 0 difference in friction of the chain in the bar , tip and drive sprocket. Ime 50 ga bars plug up with sawdust a little faster than 63 ga bare do. The longer I cut, the more I'm convinced that the better the lube and the more lube. And keeping the crap out of the bar groove and out of the chain. Is one of the most important things a person running a saw can do.
