Thought I'd share a little story about another reason that should make us feel good about CSS wood.

Went to my hometown county fair earlier this week with a couple friends. While we were walking around we saw a classmate of ours we hadn't seen for about 10 years.

He played HS and college football on the defensive line. He recognized my friends but I could tell he didn't recognize me. Finally it dawned on him and he said. "How come you weren't this big in HS" and "What do you do to work out"

I simply told him the only thing I do is cut firewood.

That's a big touchdown for firewood hoarders!

Not my arm! My largest mussel is my gut, but even that isn't really mussel. But you have to admire those who get in shape to do the demanding work of wood cutting. Not being in shape and doing the heavy lifting often results in injury.
Tore my shoulder up last year , then torn up my knee from being out of shape/ overweight this year.

    Yep.
Getting really tired of lugging around this extra weight, so I've changed my eating habits and lost almost 15 lbs. so far with more to go.
I'm always more active in the summer, so that helps.
My knees are thanking me already.

I'm trying. I've lost over seven pounds in the last three weeks. Hard to do while I can't exercise much.

I call it "piney strength" . Some people prefer to workout at a gym, i prefer "workin out" at home or in the woods. Cuttin, haulin, splittin and stackin wood works more muscles than you'll ever work at a gym. :saw: :tree: :axe::fire: (We need a stackin smiley)

Yes, being a hoarder is healthy, but when you have the screw the 6 pack, ill stick with the keg, everything seems to be balanced out.

I haven't set foot in any gym since I was 16....Sure I like my beer in moderation:cheers: & still have a decent appetite most days (eat much less on any given day in summer compared to winter time though) .But my metabolism has finally started slowing down the past 2-3 years. So I just eat smaller portions,I get full quicker than years ago on days I'm not as busy,I just eat less.

Saves on the grocery bill & plus gives me more energy too!! You cant move as good/get as much done after eating a heavy meal, its not good healthwise either.

I don't know, I've been cutting wood for about six years and I'm still built like Barney Five. :(

Very few goodies, Wheat Chex cereal in the morning, a couple cups of coffee in the morning with honey and some creamer. Usually a chicken or turkey sammich for lunch, then a big salad with chicken or maybe a burger at dinner.
Might have a yogurt later on a couple hours before bed.
I still eat other stuff too, but this seems to be what's helped.
My wife started buying some "meal bars" at Meijer. They replace a meal. Very low or no sugar, high protein, and the best part...they taste like a candy bar.
Oh, and I drink lots of water every day. Lots.
No beer and an occasional pop/soda (depending where you live) when/if we go out.

While bucking, I've been purposely setting aside the smaller (less than 18in dia), straight rounds to split by hand in order to get in an additional workout. It's fun and stress relieving to split by hand, not to mention losing the inches off the waist and getting a bit more upper body tone. Been going out in the evenings after dinner to split--cooler temps and nice to work off some dinner.
