What do you all consider an easy starting saw. I think most of my saws start and run pretty good. But after sitting a prolonged period of time ( any where from a couple weeks to several months) the all require several pulls to start. Never really counted much but I would guess 5-6 rips at least if it has been a month or better. some might take twice that, again depending on how long it has been since the last use. Once warm a short yank will do for all of them. None will start in 2-3 if it has been any time at all.
Will the coming warmer weather make a difference? Never really paid any attention to that either.

2-3 pulls cold. 1 pull when warm.
4-6 pulls if the saw hasn't been run in months.

If mine start within 3-5 pulls I’m happy enough. I noticed that if I run that expensive VP premix 50:1 fuel vs pump gas that they start easier if they’ve been sitting many weeks. I’d like to try some high octane fuel soon as an experiment. I know people that run 106 octane religiously that swear by it...

Where do you buy that, at a local airport?

Most of mine start with ease. 3-4 pulls. Some of the older models may take more on a cold start or for sitting for an extended period. I try to use all on a regular basis. Almost always one pull on a hot start.
My original 028 was so reliable, it would always cold start on four pulls...always. Even after sitting for many months with old gas! :emb:
Cant say i really pay attention to cold weather vs hot weather starting.

Some of the pro models have "elastostart" which makes pulling the cord easier.

I have 2 with primer bulbs and they start great regardless of how long they have sat as long as you push the primer and get the fuel up to the carb.
My 371XP is a bugger if it has sat for a month or longer, I pull the cover and filter and give it a dribble or two of mix and she will fire right up and the impulse will get fuel to the carb very quickly.

6 pulls on my ported stihl if it has been sitting a long time. 2-3 pulls cold and one pull warm.

Both of my saws that run, start within 2-3 pulls, even if they have sat for a half a year.

High Octane fuel is not necessary , there is not enough compression in a saw that would make it necessary.
Non ethanol fuel ; well that's a whole different story.
I run VP small engine fuel with no oil and add my own oil to give me 40:1 ratio.
The VP is 94 octane and even that is probably more than needed but non-ethanol fuel here in the state is basically extinct.
VP is expensive but does eliminate any issues from the added ethanol.

There was a missed opportunity here for a short answer that rhymes with steel.

I have a bunch of saws and they are all carburetors. It is pretty normal for these saws to be like what you are describing. The fuel has to be pumped from the fuel tank through the fuel line into the carb and then it can start to deliver fuel to the crankcase. When saws sit for awhile the fuel line and carb can become dry and it takes a little bit to get that small fuel pump in the carb to suck it from the tank into the carb.

All the "steels" I have ever used take 6-8-10 pulls when they have been sitting for a few days...20-30 pulls if its been a few months...this is my saws, saws at work, my brothers, heck even the concrete saws at work are the same way...the old "steel" weedeaters are even worse, and they have primer bulbs! :faint:

I would like to Echo this statement, and add that all my OPE is just about the same in terms of startup effort after sitting.

Op didn’t include weedwackers. I used 3 cold Stihl saws today that took <5 to fire and run.
Some days I just look at them and they start themselves.
