Bought a 2013 Chevy Volt, with 91,000 miles on it. It is a nice car. It is still early to tell whether there is any battery degredation, but it is not much, if any. It charges overnight from a 110 outlet. The longest day I have run it so far is 110 miles. It ran 29 miles on electrics alone (with the heater going), and the rest on the ICE/hybrid, using 10.3 kwh off the battery, and right at 2 gallons of gas. About 40 miles/gallon in ICE/hybrid modes, mostly highway. (The electric numbers are exact, the gas consumption and total miles are from memory...) Cost for the gas was $2.89/gallon (premium), and electricity $0.083/kwh. (Probably should round up a little due to charging losses.) Works out to about $0.06-0.07/mile for that trip. In electric mode (29 miles) it worked out to about $0.03-0.04/mile. So I expect it will shine on shorter trips where it uses mostly the electric drive, and about 40 mpg on longer trips. So far, I am satisfied with the car.
A former boss of mine had a Volt (leased IIRC) and it was a cool car. Took a ride in it a few times. Electric cars are really cool. I drove a Tesla Model 3 a little over a year ago when in FLA. Went to a Tesla store (in a mall!) and did a test drive. Amazing performance and tech. The torque from electric motors....
Congrats, I hope it works well for you long term. A Volt was second on my list. Short all electric trips are sweet, probably 95% of my driving, I filled the tank the day I got this car Feb 15th and reset everything, about 1600 miles so far and still above half a tank, just checked the mpg meter today.
There are not a lot of Volts on the market for some reason. I wanted a later model, and a 2017 came up, but sold faster than I could get to it. At the time I bought my 2013, it was the only one on the local market that I could find. Unfortunately, my time-line got condensed by a thief who thought one of my cars would be fun to joyride in. Total loss. I got an "OK" price, middle dealer Blue Book, not stellar. But the car seems good, and I have often said "I'd rather get an OK deal on a good car, than an great deal on a bad car." I am hoping this will prove to be a great car. I usually run them until they are ready for the junkyard. Drove it to church yesterday, electric all the way, 16 miles.
2013 Cruse 1.4L. Non hybrid. Work and back. Hand figured because the computer lies to you to make you feel better.
