I’m sure glad the people serving your community know how much wood you need more than YOU know how much wood you need. Crisis averted there
See about renting some ground, or making a deal with some of your better neighbors to store the excess wood on their property. That would really frost the other neighbor who stirred the pot. I know it's probably not practical, but wouldn't it be a great gotcha. I am glad I don't live in town. I tried it for a while when I was young man, but figured out, I couldn't cope with it, over 30 years ago, and moved back to the farm.
Nope, I’m on the town board. Last summer one of the other board members was out for an evening drive with his wife in their convertible, and I was out in the yard doing something. They stopped to visit for a bit and he commented about my wood piles, asking “do you think you have enough firewood”? My reply was “not even close”! It is a really small town (population 211 I think) And I have a pretty good sized lot. No ordinance concerning firewood specifically that I’m aware of
Definitely sounds like a pain in the ash neighbor. Do you know which one? Do you get along with all the other neighbors that surround the PIA. If yes, see how many of them would be willing to rent you some space. I would definitely get on the agenda for the next meeting and approach the board/council with some hard facts. How big of town is it? My town is also the county seat so the sheriff lives here, but unless the village puts him on the payroll we have no real way to enforce any ordinance. Hence we are reluctant to make any. Sheriff will/can only enforce state statutes. Which really covers most REAL issues except neighbors just being a pain and b!tching about petty stuff
I guess this thread has me a bit riled up! how does anybody else know how much wood you have? Did someone come onto your property and measure it. You said your lot is about one acre, is it a one acre lot? Or a couple smaller lots that total one acre. Splitting hairs, maybe, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Curious about the city ordinance, fire danger or aesthetics, or calling you for commercial business on a residential zone, or ... Sorry it sounds like a crock of hooooey. For sure follow up on the suggestions above.
I’m guessing your property is in a residential neighborhood and zoned as such, but if not, and you are selling it, how can they regulate how much inventory you can have? I’m no attorney or any thing even close to being informed on legal matters. But I think I would consult with one if talking to the city in a reasonable way gets no place. I keep thinking of ways around this, none of them very quick and easy or maybe even a bit costly. Perhaps if you have a family you could divy up the property between wife and kids and each could store the arbitrary 6 cords I’d have to fight this a little while if it was me. I just looked at your profile page and I see you are in Sioux Falls, don’t know how big that is. I can picture this happening back east or a few other places, but c’mon, South Dakota??? sorry about all the rants
I’m sure the people who make said rules don’t know the difference....maybe we could use this to our advantage
Here’s a couple for the township board meeting: Thats not firewood sir....that’s my Environmentally friendly privacy fence That’s not firewood concerned board members....I’m slowly composting
Get a lawyer to assist. It'll be cheaper and less aggravating in the long run. As an FYI: You can call a lawyer for advice, they don't charge for that. They may offer some recommendations or write a letter on your behalf. That may end up buying you some more time, or take the pressure of you from the town. Don't go it alone.
I would guess that selling wood could be the problem. But if there are no rules against it,for sure, fight it. Make sure before hand that you have a good presentation ready along with facts to show why you need 20 cord.
A city ordinance? Is this where someone else tells you what you can do on your own property... lmao... historically, people have been killed for such acts! Living in the country is the way its supposed to be. The only ordinances on this land, is that the animals better stay out of my garden, or they’ll get eaten with the maters we grow!
That $%&#$! Do you think a neighbor ratted you out? Id be in some deep doodoo if that happened to me. You keep your stacks nice and neat if memory serves me correct so its not a blight issue. Id fight it and keep us updated.
