I'd do some shenanigans to be able to have some company in my AO that sold logs by the load like that.
I'll go from the 026XS all the way up to the 660 depending on log size. We'll pull different sizes out of the pile & stack them together on my big steel sawbuck & size the saw appropriately. That was just log weight, I didn't think to ask him what the truck weighed. Truck & pup would be 25K I'd guess. Yep, I'll put huskihl 's work to the test.
You know where I'm at, c'mon up & see it real life. Most of it's pretty straight & not real knotty. All machine cut & loaded too so very little dirt. Thanks Tom, I thought that was a pretty good price after seeing the quality. I ordered another load for later in the year. I have enough of my Ash & Maple stash sold to pay for these loads, so why not.
Missed this thread. Very impressive load AC. Too bad the mud stopped you from harvesting your own. Must be aggravating to have to buy wood in your case, but you do what you have to.
960 for 12 cords sounds like a really nice deal. Wondering if they'll drive to Ozaukee county? I'm thinking in Fall a truck load might be a good idea after I get all the ash trees I have coming down processed this spring. I'd pass on buying ash as I have a lot of that. Easy splitting oak and maple sound great though maybe even all oak since I should be in the 3 year plan by Fall. Heck 2100 for 20 cords of oak is a great deal. You'll get a lot of saw time in on that list amateur cutter
Oh I don't know Brad, I ain't gettin any younger. It was pretty nice watching that whole load just appear & stack itself.
Yeah i imagine a load appearing must be nice, but dont you miss playing with all your wood hoarding toys???
I still haul plenty of logs, I can just do it at a bit more leisurely pace. Only gotta skid another 20-3- cord this way lol.
I helped a buddy in Feb '14 buck up a "10 cord" load he had delivered. Not 100% sure if it was a true 10 cords though. The plan was for him to split and throw them down an open basement window while I cut, but he soon realized he was being overwhelmed as I was creating rounds WAY faster then he could split them. He gave up and then just helped move what I bucked up. Cut up the whole load in a handful of hours. Then over the summer of '14 I cut up ~10 cord for myself and split/stacked that in the fall of '14. Then the winter of '14/'15 I cut another 16+ cord and split/stacked that in the spring of '15. Pics of when I helped my buddy cut up his 10 cord load.
Yep, set up properly I can keep two splitters & 4 guys busy without working too hard. I keep 2 or 3 sharp gassed saws handy & I can buck faster than the machines can split. Kinda fun actually.
I touched up my chain a few times that day, IIRC. I also remember keeping my bar lube right inside the house door as it was pretty cold.
