    When riding along today I suddenly smelled the most delicious wood smoke.Had no idea what it was.So what are the sweetest smelling wood smoke ?

    I was thinking Birch as well.
    I had a little mixed in with my other wood this year and you can really tell from the smell when you are burning it.
    I never really paid attention to smells before but the birch really stands out.

    Birch is probably the best smelling wood when burning that I have experienced. I think it is even better than Hickory, which I have always thought was the best.

    I always assumed cherry was the best which is why sometimes people will pay a premium for it. After all, they wouldn't be paying a premium for it's BTU value since it's nothing great.

    Sliver Birch does it for me for smell, love it. There’s another wood out there I don’t know the name of but when you split it and smell the wood it smells amazin, almost perfumey, I think it’s a type of furr maybe. But that also smells great when you burn it.

    I can say Maple...is the worst. Swamp or Red Maple anyway.

    I think Red Oak has a handsome smell.

    But the very best is Apple. I only have a little from an old broken tree I was sorry to loose. I light that and go outside.
