I think I know where it came from so I probably know what it is, but the dark center has me confused.

I'll go WAY out on a limb here and guess Siberian Elm.

I’d say it’s your favorite species.

Don’t think so I’m quite familiar with that one. Bark is way wrong. But thanks for playing, feel like I should send you a consolation prize like a set of steak knives

Alright, now I'm seeing Willow. I assumed that the opposite leaves in that last picture belonged to the tree, which had me guessing Siberian Elm.

You guys guessing willow are pretty good. I’d seen in the road ditch just outside of town where a tree was taken out for a new power line, then I spotted this at the dump and was pretty sure it came from there. I didn’t figure willows to have such a dark center. When I pulled into the dump and seen the dark center and unfamiliar bark I started thinking I better hurry before buZZsaw BRAD finds it.
I was hoping it might be the coveted black locust that I hear so much about. But deep down I figured it was that willow :(

Those leaves in the last picture go with the wood.... well actually, they stay with the wood in the dump!

If its any consolation i unintentionally cut and took a few willow rounds at my BL score two Sundays ago. I mistakenly thought it was mulberry just by the bark. I snap a pic tomorrow as i put them aside not sure what to do with them.
How often do you go to the wood dump SHB?
    4th pic twigs say willow.

I check it out probably 3 -4 times a week. For the last couple years. Very seldom anything worth grabbing.

Pretty much the same. Although I've never tried to cut shop towels with a chainsaw.
