Put a few miles on Hondas too, over 51 yrs... Lessee... in HS a 350 street scrambler, then a V500... finally 2 Goldwings. Took a really nice 4 day ride with my honey up n over into NB, PEI and NS... back on the Blue Nose ferry. Never had even one issue with any of those bikes. Good memories made...
When I first started at the dealership they sponsored rides on Sundays...the first one I went to the boss decided to give me a new demo Magna (just like the one in your pic, only metallic blue) to ride, because I showed up on my 1986 XL250R and he said that bike would be a torture device by the end of the day (it would have!) I was because I was all of 18 and a pretty new employee...heck, might have even been part time yet at that point. Anyways, I did enjoy riding that bike...always thought they looked pretty cool too. I never owned one, but I did have a VF500 and later a VF1100...am on my 3rd GL1500 now...had a GL1800 for a time, but stood to make a tidy profit on it, and it had less legroom than my 1500, so I sold it. I've worked on a TON of those GL1200's...had the stator replacement procedure (drop engine, remove rear cover) down to 4-5 hours! Honda sure made the right call going to an alternator on the 1500/1800's!
Finally swung a leg over this year! Was almost 35f when I left for my 35 minute commute. Finger tips were cold when I got there, that's about it though. Will really enjoy the high 60's when I take the long way home.
Not a super great shot, but I picked this up this winter. Just rebuilt the carbs, trying to get it dialed in a road worthy. So far it runs, and that's about it. I'm having a tough time figuring out if the carbs are running rich or lean, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
Does adding a little bit of choke help? If so it's lean...if it gets worse then it's rich. Chances are it's lean...
Everyone in this thread should be able to appreciate this pic. It’s a tire I changed last week at the bike shop.
Took a ride out to the boondocks of New York last night and picked this up. 1971 Honda CL350 Scrambler with just over 7k on the clock. Turn signals and taillights didn’t work but I got that straightened out this afternoon. Still needs a really thorough cleaning and some cosmetic work but overall I’m happy with it. I took it for a quick 15 minute ride up into the hills for some hairpin turns. For a little bike this thing is a blast. Something different, which fits my style.
The bike finally got a wash this last weekend. I took it out today for a 80 mile ride. It did feel good to get on the bike after a busy winter of projects. It was mid 40s starting out and made it to the mid 50s .
PSA, check those filters! I was replacing a stator and R/R @ the shop, pulled open the air box and bam! How could he not feel a lack of power?? Stator was extra crispy.
Ah, you got me. I saw ale... I have 4 clients with the system on their bikes. 3 HD's and a Gold Wing.
I've been going back and forth with the Connecticut DMV for a couple days on registering my "new" bike. No title (NY didn't title prior to 1973) so in lieu of that all I needed was the last New York registration (which of course the seller didn't have because all he ever did was ride backroads unregistered) So after several emails with the CT DMV they told me that it's basically a 50/50 shot I'll be able to register it in CT, depending on whoever I get behind the desk at the DMV and what kind of mood they're in. Greaaaaaaat. No way I'm burning up vacation time from work on what will most likely be a couple trips to the DMV. Enter, THE VERMONT LOOPHOLE. All they require is a bill of sale, some pictures of the bike, VIN verified, proof of insurance, registration fees and taxes. Mail it all in and a few weeks later get plates in the mail. From there easily transfer the registration to your state, or continue rocking The Green Mountain State tags. 100% legal. So, skirting the system aside, the prize on the horizon for me: The Trans-Mass-Trail. No, it's not some gender fluid parade at Harvard Square. It runs backroads and dirt roads traversing Massachusetts from North to South and I can't wait to ride it, finally. Hopefully I'll have plates on my bike before it gets God-awful hot out there. If anyone here has a use for this I’ll gladly send it to you for the shipping charge. I got rid of my DT400 almost 10 years ago now and saved the manual.
Dusted off the old Beemer this morning for the 27th year. For some reason I'm late to work this morning.
Behold, the loophole is real! Just got my plate and registration. I should get my 2 year sticker in the mail shortly. Other than that, I’m legal to ride
