I know it’s around here but can anyone confirm this is post oak? I personally feel it’s always hard to tell it apart from some white oak.

Post oak will have a lot of small knots in the wood. Not big knots, just a bunch from all the small lateral branches a post oak has when young. First pic of round makes me say yes and trunk pic gives me doubt. It doesn’t look like white.

I know it’s oak for sure. Possibly bear oak if not post?

You mean Burr oak? That's another white oak species.

No I meant bear. I did forget about Burr though to be honest. Maybe that’s it?

What does the split smell like? Do all white oak sub species have the whiskey smell?

Ah. I looked it up. Scrub oak is bear oak. Never heard of bear oak before.

Non-existent, even. Like some bad Brad guy with a saw or 6 cut them all down.
