Well I hope everyone can provide their 2 cents here quick.
I'm looking at purchasing a 27 ton "Gravely" splitter here soon. The guy said he has had it in his shop ("Nelson Sales and Service", in Aberdeen SD) for sale for about 5 years and just wants to get rid of it. He told me he would sell it to me for $1200+tax.
    What do you guys think??

Doesn’t seem like the “I just want to get ride of it” price to me? Looks like it sold for about 1500 new. The couple reviews I saw were only 3 out of 5. Gravely discontinued, does Ariens still make the model? If not service and parts could be a PIA.
I’d go for a much lower price, if he really wants to get rid of it you might get a real good deal.

I had the Ariens version purchased from Lowes for about $1200.00 maybe 8 years ago. Got good use out of it with no issues for 400ish cord. Sold it to a friend a few years ago when I got my Rugged with the log lift. Given current prices on equipment I'd probably buy it for that.

I bought it. Sticker price was $1600 and change. Brand new, just 5 years old sitting on the showroom floor. It my first real log splitter. I will find out what I like about it and what I dont. Then maybe in a few years, I can get a different one that does even better. But for now, im happy. My oldest son and already spent about a half an hour cutting up some of our latest wood score. Can't complain. She slowed down a little bit when I put a Y in there, but never stopped. My 5 ton would have never made it though that piece.

I run my 25 ton at about 1/2 throttle usually. Its a bit slower I'm sure, but its WAY quieter for sure.
