I went to close to the sun... it doesn’t help that the stack leans towards the sun when drying. Tone I got that sorted I shifted more oak to the back so I have more room for red maple. I’m going all in on Red maple this year. In the hopes that it will dry quickly enough I don’t go through all my locust next year. And that will give the oak maybe another year to chill. I also found some old Norway maple uglies that I managed to blast apart after a couple years now. X29 was not enough, but the isocore, if I really put my body into it would Usually cause the pieces to go flying. Some of these looked like oak, but it was just burley parts of the lower trunk, some noodles.
The good news is the black maple from a few weeks ago is already feeing much lighter. The neighbors red was winter-fell, so hoping it will dry up quick as well.
Red maple is one of the fastest drying woods we have here. One can cut it now and if it is split and stacked can be ready to burn next fall.
I hate when that happens. Had a logalanche of rounds topple. Discovered it yesterday. Behind my friends shed so i wont bother restacking. Split em soon. Windy here Friday night. Checked the stacks and found this

My wife and I have discussed the logistics if the three year plan and the wood stack sprawl going on in the back yard. Plus, we plan on putting up a couple walls this Spring to make the slope in the yard more usable and help the drainage. Double-stacking against a wall or a fence is not ideal because the one in back, well can grow some mushrooms. But I figure locust can wait, and the oak is going to have to, which gives me a couple spots where I think I can fit in a face (1/3) cord each. Putting me real close to the 2 cord goal for red maple. There is something ironic about thinking, “I don’t have enough room for all this oak” when attempting the three year plan. It is higher btu dense. If I had all 3+ year oak, it would be taking up less space than the maple. But Maple is like my “just in time” supply economics. When I was rearranging the white oak I saw some real think splits of chestnut oak. I left them thick so that they could function as all-nighters is my small insert firebox. Some are stacked well, but esp the ones in back may take well over 3.
