Stayed in 60's all night until a bit of rain moved through around 5:30 this morning. This is amazing as that is summer night temperatures. I see the temp just dropped again so maybe the cold front came through early.
19* snowing and gust to 40mph, 72* inside courtesy of spruce. Really enjoying the warmer weather, the OWB is going 24 hours per load.
Been on 24 hours a load here for a few days too Rope 30 now, windy, finally stopped raining but its snowing now.
We had 40.1 this morning, the stove is cold and the driveway received some sand and ashes this morning. We hit 56.3 just a few minutes ago.
Got the fire going this morning. Temps were down into the mid 30's. Lots of wind the past couple of days. Glad we are sheltered from the worst of it.
Sun is shining, snow is melting....well, at least the snow that I didn't shovel.... but it is still windy.
Right on! Colorado's great. When I was a teenager I used to go to the Crestone area every summer. Hang out at the dunes and do some backpacking up in the Sangre de Cristo range.
Sure. Hopefully these are visible... The first one is the clearest photo I can find of the pile. It's from last December when I was working on our fence, but you can see the mill ends behind the fence rails. That's about half or 1/3 of what I got from the miller. Filled a 30' trailer. Some of the mill ends took 3 guys to unload. And free! So that was a good scrounge. The next photo is what's left right now. Down to the bottom row... Our Aussie brought his frisbee when he saw me come out to take the pic. Last one is a measurement of one of the larger splits of a walnut mill end in our rack by the door. All of this stuff came from a custom miller who mills whatever you bring him, which is likely why it's so big compared to what you see on Youtube or whatever. Irregular logs = bigger mill ends. I got my fence lumber (white oak) from an Amish sawmiller who also had mill ends, but his were much thinner. Probably because he sourced his own logs and was much more production oriented.
36 out right now, got oak, elm, maple and basswood in the OWB. Finished stacking the cord of red oak splits I brought home. Got to finish cutting the rest of it up and get it home. (Don't mind the dirty OWB... It needs a power washing on this side.)
We're still at 55 but dropping so the wife wanted a fire (our first of the day) we have some soft maple and cherry going in the Liberty.
My son sent me some picks of the dunes. Every days off, he and his girlfriend grab the dogs and goes hiking and camping some place. He is in Fort Collins.
