Got a van load of this. Been in rounds ~1 year. Don't know about leaves. The 12" round I split was kinda tough going. Some kind of hickory? Thanks, Doug
if thats the bark that goes to it on the 4 th picture id say she's black cherry now its possible that it could be red maple but im sayin black cherry cause of the bark and the pinkish/salmon color of splits in 4th pic
The inside and the bark in the fourth picture look like cherry to me. Cherry can be a bear to split sometimes.
I have cut a ton of fence line black cherry in my day. Your first pic is a dead ringer for what the black cherry I have cut looks like when split. But then I look at the other pics and the bark looks maple ish. So I am confused now!
Without looking at the responses i say cherry based on pics 1, 4 & 5 and some of pic 2. I dont think pic #3 is cherry and am not sure what it is.
I think it's cherry as well. That was my initial thought based on the pics. I see others are thinking the same.
If fresh cut ends it usually splits pretty easy for me, but if the ends check it can be a bear. Most i score is on the smaller side. Less than 16" DBH.
I lean Maple. Bark is too deep on the large rounds for Cherry, at least around me. Also looks like Maple where the wood tears instead of clean splitting. Easy way to tell for sure; split a fresh one and bury your nose into the fresh wood. Cherry will be a no doubter. Smells just like a Cherry.
Yeah, the first pic smells like cherry. But that looks like only 15% of the 1/2 cord scrounge. Other rounds look like some kind of poplar? - hard as concrete - I had to noodle most of them. Not much of a smell. Then the dark heartwood rounds - bottom pics.
