Whatever size you decide is big enough, double it, and add 10%. Ultimately, you'll want the garage to be twice as many square feet as the house.
    You'll thank me later.

x2 SloMoJoe , I was fortunate to play in my grandparents barn as a kid, it was from the early 1900's or late 1800's, there were some ancient large hay or straw bails up there, and hardware hanging off triangle you circled, a giant beam along the entire beam up there. My father said there was pully come along thingy to get it up there to the loft (and other things to store judging by old furniture unused flooring and some equipment up there too). The edge of the loft ended above an open room IN the barn that shared a wall with the lean to for the cows, but the loft also had a catwalk to the other side of the barn.

The lean to was so cool too, deeper than the one we had at my previous house for the llamas so the cows could shelter from 3 sides. The wall between lean to and main barn room had several cut outs with hinges on them, you swung them up for a "window" and hooked them to secure. Below, there was a wood box along the whole wall to put hay in, and about waist of chest high above it was a 2 x 4 (ish) frame with a rail running across the top. Under each "window" there was an additional 2 x 4 the swung up to open, then put back down and hook it when the cow began to feed so they could go milk the cows in the lean to. HOW easy and clever and common sense!

Might have answered my own question, catwalk was for straw for the lean to, edge of loft to main room must have been hay.

How much snow do you get? If you get much snow make sure to have doors on the gable end not on the sides. A lot of snow can fall on you or your car if you have doors on the sides. Maybe snow stops would help?
    Good luck and post pics!

My tractor just fits in the barn overhead door, I keep the snow cleaned out very well there!

I have a metal roof that dumps infront of the garage doors. The stops do help some but you get the snow on the roof melting and a skating rink under the overhang. If you are in the design phase this should be avoided at all cost!

Yeah, our owner at work insisted the shop door was to be on the (side) of the building toward the office. (So he could see it from his office).
We ended up building a little porch roof over the door because when the snow unloaded off the roof you couldn't open the door.:picard:(the door swings out)

A number of eyars ao we had a metal roof put on our house. For years I was forced to clear out the snow that slid off the roof in front of the garage and in the back of the house I had to get the snow off of the deck. Last summer I had the snow clips installed and so far this winter, I have not had to clear any snow, either in the driveway or the deck. When the snow melted, the gutters caught it and put the water in the yard. Should have done that years ago.

I have the bars on the garage roof. I’m kinda leery of gutters. The bars don’t always hold the snow in a large accumulation storm. I think the gutter would get ripped off.
