I had a pretty straight one that I hand split. After I got it split I decided to buy a splitter! I thought the wood burned pretty well though, and would take it if you use hydralics. Stay away from any crotch pieces. Full of water and heavy when wet.... I've seen sycamore quarter sawn before and the grain is something special.
I tend to agree with what others have posted about it as firewood. I will usually pass on it. I am fortunate to live in an area with abundant oak, black locust, sugar maple, ash, cherry, etc. and can pass on sycamore and other woods I don't care for.
