I had couple of Ash trees that were going to end up falling in the creek so I helped them out getting there. I knew the old 300 Farmall wasn’t going to be able to horse them up out of there so I wrangled some extra grunt to get them out. Tree #1 Tree #2 Pulled out & limbed up, hopefully get them bucked up in the morning before working cattle.
Yes, it is pretty greasy out there. I had the differential locked in pulling it up out of there. that 2nd tree was about 32” @ the base. I broke a 3/8” chain dragging it up.
Nothing wrong wit a little muscle...or in this case, a lotta muscle! Where did the chain break? Glad you got em out safely, and looks like a beautiful day to do it
I had three 20’ x 3/8” chains hooked together to get the 2nd pulled up, I had it moving & didn’t want to stop, I was trying to get it up far enough for a one chain hook. A link in the middle of an older chain broke. I believe it’s a grade 40 the other 2 are grade 70.
Nice Jim as that would have been a mess cutting it up where it was and a whole lot more work. But a fellow with a smaller tractor could have cut the tree so as to pull out half at a time. With all the branches still on always makes the job tough.
I considered cutting the forks off, parting up the trunk & limbing it in the creek but that would of required numerous trips up/down that greasy bank & I would of inevitably gone rolling a-hole over appetite down that bank so I opted for more power. Plus all those limbs plug up the flow of the creek.
