This past weekend I spotted an ugly orange piece of crotch wood poking out of a snowbank. I thought maybe Mulberry at the time and hefted the hernia maker into my truck. I messaged buZZsaw BRAD about it who recognized it as Bradford Pear. Today I got around to splitting it. Each chunk just splintered off with the loud crack of a 308 (not really but you get the idea). I’m glad I have hydraulics for this. Strange wood though. It’s been a long time since I scrounged any new species. It would’ve been nice if there was more of it. I’ll add it to the 2022-2023 stacks.
Bradford Bear...is that Teddy's brother? I would have guessed Mulberry from the first pics...after splitting, that is certainly not it...
LOL the bear part was how it split, and how it felt wrestling it into my truck while standing knee deep in a snowbank. Yeah all I thought at first was Mulberry myself. I haven’t cut that in 10 years now, so my memory is kind of rusty. When I went to lift it and felt how heavy it was I knew that it would probably be worth grabbing. Very, very dense.
