Update on the Demoulas drama with Market Basket.. Hopefully they get it settled so I can get back to buying my Busch 30 packs for $14.99!!. http://www.bostonglobe.com/business...rket-basket/iblE2hbqIZ6toxjXVizroI/story.html
Commissary on base here was pretty expensive. Normally cheaper at Walmart, not to mention better selection.
We filled our cart to the top at also last weekend for $140 that I paid with the cash I got from just hauling scrap metal!! This was at AlDI Anyone have trader joes? We dont but its owned by same company as ALDI. Its a upscale yuppi aldi from what I understand and found in bigger towns.
Trader Joe's is around here...As you said, owned by Aldi's...They just build them in well-to-do areas and the rich folk go and buy 2 buck chuck wine!
It's 3 bucks now We used to go there quite a bit, mostly because they have decent coffee for a pretty good price. We buy coffee at Costco now, along with butter, cheese, some meat, frozen strawberries and blueberries for smoothies, dishwasher detergent, cat litter, beer, some other occasional stuff. Maple syrup, when I can't get it locally. Most everything else comes from Aldi. Snacks, cereal, dairy products, eggs, produce, paper products, bread, pasta, etc. Been Aldi shoppers for years. It has improved greatly in the last five or so.
Never heard of Aldi's before but they have one on Corunna Road I will go check it out. Mainly I go to Meijers, Walmart once in awhile, and I go to Kroger to pick up small stuff quickly because its a half a mile away
There is a Trader Joe's in Portland Me. Upscale, I don't think of it that way. Everything in the store except produce has the Trader Joes logo on it. It is a very basic store. NO thrills. But does have a good selection of food, including a lot of processed foods. Prices are OK, but nothing really special. Our local Hannaford stores are very attractive and have a lot of selections and some store brand names. Very neat clean and well organized stores with good service. I think their prices are reasonable. produce is fresh and they buy local when available.
Its upscale for the ones that want to save. Your upper middle class yuppi and young folks. Trust me. This area is eat up with Aldi's the only TJ stores are in the 3 biggest cities in this state...where the no eyes is???
Regularly we shop at Walmart, Food Lion, BJs (like Sams and Costco) and Farm Fresh. There is a Trader Joes and a Whole Foods an hour from us that we sometimes go to but thats pretty far for groceries. I wish we had a wegmans nearby or even a Kroger. Theres a Family Foods in the county not far but the store smells like moth balls and weve bought rancid meat from there so we only go in there for chips or beer on occasion. I wish there was a real butcher around here and some decent small local groceries.
The only grocery we go to is food lion cause thats all thats I'm the small town near us. If were in the big town there is a walmart and aldi so we go there. There is also a BILO and 2 huge food lions and getting a public this yr.
Walmart,2 local grocery chains,1 statewide chain,ALDI.Occasionally Sam's Club & Costco. I watch all the ads each week, its all mix & match but everyone is pretty competitive & normally will match the other's prices in current ad.Saves on gas driving to stores closest to me. Trader Joe's opened up way out in suburbs in 2011,lots of cool stuff there at good prices, only stop there 3-4 times yearly on way home from working out west or being at parents for a day. ALDI has the best snacks (equal or better to Frito-Lay,other national brands at 1/2 the cost or less.)Also their canned goods, produce, all of the frozen stuff I tried so far & a few other things like cereal/granola,unsalted peanuts, spices, dried pasta,rice/pasta/potato dishes are great too
Used to shop where the dude shopped... I miss Ralph's.. Also used to go to Smart and Final... Great store.. Von's was good at 5am Sunday morning when we needed pancake mix and vodka.. No blue laws in Cali.. IGA is another one not yet mentioned.. I think I still have my Ralph's club card too from 10 years ago!!!!
Most places jere have gotten rid of value laws in this state but still can't buy beer on sunday or liquor.
I have seen IGA mentioned a couple of times and I always thought it was a BC province store chain. We have an IGA and a SuperValu. To get to Costco is three hours drive and Walmart is 2.5 hours. We usually stock up on paper products, cleaning supplies and non-perishables when we make the trip. Save-on-Foods (used to be called Overwaitea) is a 1/2 hr. away. We are pretty well stuck with what we have. Closest health food store is 2.5 hours away as well.
I hope you got a Ralph's club card when you were there!!!! This is the one I used to go to. Good underground parking.. Ralphs 4315 Mission Blvd San Diego, CA 92109
You're right... Nate mentioned it before I did... Apparently they are more widespread than just North America!!!. ^_^ http://www.igakorea.com/
