That’s commitment brad to not do anything about it until you got a pic! My instinct would have been to grab where I felt the pain. For sure glad it wasn’t your eyeo_O surely this hasn’t soured your feelings for black locust!

Only hurt going in and when it flapped in the breeze. Ive got hit in the eye with bark chips. Those are quite a stinger. I know i should wear safety glasses but they fog up and slip off my nose.

It'll take a lot more than that to sour my taste for BL thats for sure.

Ha Ha. That's a great look for you!!
On a serious note. Do you wear eye protection when you split? I always do. I have a buddy that lost an eye about 5 years ago. He was breaking kindling over his knee and a huge splinter got him in the eye, just like that. It was a real bummer.
Sorry to be a drag. I just don't want anything bad to happen to my friends!

BL 19 vaccination shot #1 has been administered.

Wait a couple weeks and you'll have to get the booster shot.

Yep, that smarts. I'll often leave my helmet on with face shield down when splitting brittle stuff. I wear eyeglasses as well, but small dust & debris can get around those. If regular safeties fog up, get some chainsaw mesh style safeties, they breath & don't fog up. Better than losing an eye.

Wow, I've had metal stuff shatter and get me in the hands before but never close to the eye... Glad it turned out OK. I wear glasses anyway, but I do like the mesh shield on my helmet for protection when cutting but I've never worn anything other than my glasses while splitting.

Stay safe out there and happy Locust hunting...

My question is, did you put it in the stacks? Never leave any BL behind.

I wonder how long that piece of BL will take to dry fully? (Oh wait, it's probably dry already!)

To combat the fogging issue, I got some metal screen glasses (the name escapes me). They double as sunglasses and don't take too long to get used to. Check them out
