Started building a new sled today. A couple decommissioned highway signs for sled bottoms . A couple planks I free hand ripped from a white spruce log. The planks will be the runners but will attach above the big sign. It will be a type of tabogin. I'm gonna name it The Eskimo P. Logger. Ill post more pics as it gets built and put to work. I'll be pulling it with my 98 Arctic Cat Panther 550. It will be 36" wide by at least 8'6" long possibly longer.
Looks like the one I have. Actually given to me by a friend when he bought a new trailer. I put new lights and tires on it and have used the heck out of it. It won't win a beauty contest but I have had that thing loaded to the rim and it handled it no problem. Seems to tow perfect behind my small Toyota truck , like it's not even there.
Great hauler, I just saw one local looks like same one for $600 on CL. Mine is small, way to many loads needed to move wood around and fill up the winter wood shed.
buZZsawBRAD , official FHC photographer! This guy has pictures of everything. I need to make it a point to take more pictures , not only for here but just in general as well. Between a camera on my phone and a real nice DSLR camera with a bunch of different lenses I certainly have what I need to do so at my disposal . Defiantly need to work on this. Thanks for posting BRAD.
When i first joined i couldnt post pics with my cheapo flip phone. I bought a simple digital camera and use that. One common phrase heard on here is "no pics or it didnt happen" Not only do i like posting pics but also like seeing pics of what the other hoarders are working on.
Just keep that SIM card in a safe place. If the boss gets a hold of it you might get in trouble. = Busted ! I can hear it from here... " BRAD where did you get all those saws from? I thought you only had one".
Well, now I'm afraid to visit Alaska. Somebody took all the road signs & I'll get lost. Cool project, can't wait to see the finished product.
I got the runners dressed and inletted by quitting time. The Eskimo P. Logger will be 36" wide by 11' long. If I get trails broke and froze in. I think Ill be able to sled out 3/4 cord loads. I plan on putting eye bolts in the back of the runners and building a skidding arch/bunk sleigh for getting out long logs. I think I've designed a good side stake system that will be pretty Skookum. And able to take the stakes on and off without tools AND make 2 ramps to fit into the stake pockets for rolling sawlogs onto the sledge. Wood side stakes has always been a challenge on wooden sleds for me.
I get cranky about the pics or it didn't happen thing. I was too busy doin to be takin pics back then. Plus before the digital age it was a real trick keeping cameras and photos dry. When I was on the coast.
