    My vote is that it’s black locust, I have also seen that dark color to it especially when it has been standing dead for a while.

    BL is a funny beast. I don’t recall ever seeing some that dark. I do have splits in the pile that turned red after splitting. Super weird and I wish I knew which logs would do that in advance. I’d make lumber out of them :)

    Joe, are you sure it wasnt mulberry? It can have a similar heartwood color as BL, but it weathers to a reddish brown to brown as it ages. Post some pics.

    I actually disagree on the Black Locust. I’ve seen TONS of it and have access to a lot

    to me it looks like Black Walnut or Mulberry
