Thanks guys, really appreciate it. I do not. But then again, my only weather instruments are the thermometer and my eyes. It's 78°F and sunny isn't necessarily of much use to them. There are Hurricane nets and such, but that seldom applies to Western NY. About most I can do is update snowfall totals.
Neat to see there are Hams here too! Just passed the Technician and General Exams recently and waiting for a call sign from the FCC. What are you all’s go to for finding repeater frequencies? I’ve used RepeaterBook app, but discovered from a fellow long time Ham that there are quite a few repeaters not published. I’m located in SW MI.
Anyone do anything for Field Day this weekend? I was on for a couple of hours today, will likely get on 40 and 80 meters later tonight. Relaxing outside with Chazsbetterhalf and Holly at the moment.
i been thinkin about gettin into it....been exposed to it enough...but i might already have enough hobbies who knows
It currently costs little or nothing to get licensed, but that will be changing.. haven't heard when new fees will be instituted by the FCC. Testing through Tech and General isn't overly difficult, and opens up all bands, with only some additional range added upon Extra certification. Online testing is prevalent these days, and $15 is the normal testing cost. If you don't get into it, well then you're out $15 and some time. Something to consider.
I’m thinking for some reason that I’m a tech plus. Seems that is what I went after, but I think they’ve dropped that designation since, maybe. I can’t really recall it’s been so long since I’ve been active. Got a buddy hounding me to get back into the swing of things. Wish I still had my old 2meter/220 radio ... was a Kenwood TM631A I believe. Wish I’d have never sold it now. My Buddy, who passed and why I sort of got out of it had the grilled-band newer version of the Kenwood. It was real nice radio. Never did much with the big radio’s. Matter of fact, don’t think I’ve ever talked on one.
If you've been out an extended time and your license expired, you can get re-licensed by just passing element 2 (Tech)
Nope...kept it up to date.I just meant I had stopped talking on my radio for several years even before selling it, and that was several years ago when I sold it. I do need to check and see when I renew my license, but I think it is still a year or two away. I’ve got the paperwork somewhere. EDIT: Tech ... expires 4/6/23
Well, made 105 contacts over the weekend. 60 voice (phone) contacts and 45 digital (FT8) contacts. Switched over to digital last night after Chazsbetterhalf went to bed, as it's quieter. Worked digital for a few hours today, and finished out the weekend on voice. I know many others will have several hundred contacts, but I'm not spending nearly that much time on the radio.
