    Every online political discussion:
    # You think the government is going to solve all your problems if only they extorted enough tax dollars from the rest of us!
@ You think by giving businesses tax breaks, the money will magically trickle down to the rest of us!
    # You think literally everything is about race and identity!
@ You think nothing has to do with race or identity!
    # You hate America and want to destroy it!
    @ You're a Nationalist!
    # You think [insert strawman argument]
@ You think [insert strawman argument]
    # You're an elitist!
    @ You're inbred!
    # You're a communist!
    @ You're a racist!
I'm glad there is no political thread on here :)

Between yesterday and today maybe 4 inches. It was more of a nuisance than anything. It's okay though, Monday we'll have another shot at this winter storm thing :) How about up by you?

I think FHC members can be more civil than all that...besides, that name calling would go against FHC rules...my political forum idea would only suspend one normal rule...the political topic being allowed (and just as a reminder it would be hidden to "non political" members...it would only allow things to be discussed that are a bit sketchy in open forum now...NOT a place to go looking for a fight...or like a no holds barred and anything goes kind of thing) Could even have it so new thread topics would need approved before posting...would add a bit more work for mods, but not much...compared to every post needing to be approved.
If this is not of interest to management, then fair enough...just tossing out the idea. ;)

We have about 5 inches at the moment. Still coming down. Plans are in the works to hit the cove this weekend. I was curious what to expect.

I think there are plenty of other avenues as well... one thing I appreciate here is having a shared set of passions across the spectrum of other views. What binds us should be what is most important. Although I guess that comment could be extrapolated to our larger society as well.

For certain gas for collecting wood, running saws and equipment will be going up in price.

May save some a few pennys. Rural king has some bar oil on sale for $6 if I recall. No shortage of bar oil,. Several pallets of different brands and prices. My drive home from TN to MO saw gas from $2.17-$2.84. IL is most expensive and KY roads went to hell this winter.

I need propane at the house soon but I'm waiting a few weeks. Demand is high after this latest winter storm.

I think next winter will be colder yet and require more firewood. Grandfather said there's never just one cold winter. I'd got no data to guide my speculating. I know I burned more wood this year than last so I want even more for next year. I don't like short stacks going into March. It can still snow until Easter....and it has.

I agree we’ve been spoiled weather wise for the last 5 years or so with mild and almost snowless winters. We may start getting into a new pattern of cold and snow. 2010-2015 saw some real snow and cold. For those not on the three year plan, this is the year to push forward and make it happen. Prices of fuel are going up, wood prices will most likely go up, and the weather could start changing. Don’t get caught with your pants down.

I disagree, those old boys were better guides than the satellites & 'puters most of the time. They paid close attention because they had to be prepared in order to survive.

For me a thread title will let me know what direction it’s going. They are loaded, or bait to elicit political response/strong opinion. For the most part I avoid them. I am a chainsaw and wood enthusiast. I come here to share that enthusiasm, camaraderie and for a break from the divisive vitriol that is everywhere all the time. The ties that bind us should be stronger than those that tear us apart. Here and in life.
Now I’m gonna go move some wood and fire up the splitter. Hopefully I get to run some saws that have been inside too long. Have a great weekend y’all.

My half cord prices are higher than the going rate as its dry and a true half cord. If the market price goes up, so will i. I dont see it happening IMO.

Nothing's for free. I probably used 4 gallons of saw mix last year and 10 gallons on the splitter. Usually don't have to drive too far for wood so I don't track it. Rough guess 60 gallons for driving, hauling, ......
Say at $2/gallon 74 gallons was $148. With fuel close to $3/gallon some places that will $221.
I filled a bunch of jugs this summer when gas was$1.25/gallon and used it all up around Thanksgiving. Next year's wood will cost over twice this year's.

Even at $300, wood's a cheap way to heat the house. I did the math once, BTU to BTU, I was saving close to $2000 compared to propane heat. Electric heat cost savings is more, but when we had electric heat we had the house set at 65F. The house is set at 70F or warmer with wood heat.

My biggest expenditure is saw chains and buying chainsaws. :)

I use more gas mowing the yard every year or driving to work. I try to pick wood up while I'm out for some other task so the wood hauling gas is "free".

I may have to get back over to Rural King and pick up some more bar oil. I like $ 5.67 a gallon for it opposed to over $ 10 I'm seeing some other places. I only picked up 2 gallons the other day because I already have 4 in the shop. If it will trend up like gas, I'd prefer to have plenty extra from the lower price...

I've got 2 gallons of bar oil in the shop. I picked up one more from Rural king because I like to have 3 on standby. I went to see if there was any deals on saw chain. There wasn't at the Paducah KY store. They had loops of 25" stihl low kickback chain out of box...at new price. I figure they were swapped out at the store when someone bought a 460.
