During snow insulation is very important in the attic you have to keep the heat in the home, without the Insulation if you notice homes that have plenty of it in attic the snow stays on roof, without it the roofs have the snow quickly melting.
My co-worker used to work at our local plant...I'll hafta ask him if they do anything special to avoid freezing...
Not judging at all - asking for those that might know. Insulation is pushed in the NE to keep temps regulated in the cold and the warm. I am adding more to the attic in the spring though I am already well insulated to further regulate the house. I am wondering in the southern states why insulation is not used to keep the house cooler in the heat of summer. Does this come down to cost? I would think insulation would help in summer when the A/C units are cranking. Again, I am asking out of ignorance.
Watched the news last night and the videos coming out of Texas are sad to say the least, can't help but feel sorry for those whose apartments and homes that have been inundated with water from frozen pipes. People are trying to stay warm with whatever means possible leading to other issues. Some living in their cars.
Years ago i had an insulation company quote me a price for it in all of attic, but when the men came out they said my quote did not cover the garage, i said then don't do anything and get the hell outa here. Called another company got a good quote said their men was just finishing a big job close to me and would stop at my house in 1/2 hour and do job when men arrived they told me they had a ton of insulation left over from last job and if i wanted it all they would be happy to give it to me as they did not want to haul it back. I said give me everything you have and i got around five feet of high quality insulation in my attic and since then my home stays cool in summer and warm in winter.
I agree on this - insulation can only take you so far without a viable heat source to warm the space.
Although inconvenient, I’ve heard Texans are pretty darn tough people, so if that’s true, they’re well equipped to weather this storm!
Have to disagree on that, not well equipped to handle something they very rarely get, getting warmer today and power coming back on in some places so improving conditions will help.
I’ve got friends and family in both categories and you’re probably right! I was being optimistic, not realistic
Maybe a billion or a trillion or maybe a a billion trillion light years ago something of a someone uttered something like "FIRE GOOD" and the rest is history today. Today we have trees and firewood bucking men and woman, and as uttered way back then fire good and still is.
Hard to say, I have relatives in CA, all homes there with the exception of a Grandma that has since passed, her home sold and demolished..... have little to no insulation. They pay through the nose all winter for heating wearing double layers inside and they pay through the nose all summer for air conditioning just to get it "less hot". Whole lifetimes of this.
Would have never guessed that, i know at one time houses in Florida were built poorly, owners found out after a storm.
