    All time record low of -20F reported on the local news yesterday morning, awaiting confirmation from NWS. I woke up to 69F.
    NG has been cut off to local industries. Rolling blackouts.

    Well........ Add another disappoint for the forecasting ability of weathermen.

    Sitting at -26 now.

    I had planned to do some snowplowing at the cottage this morning, but it'll have to warm up quite a bit before that happens.

    I have plowed in worse temps and conditions, but why push the equipment if the plowing doesn't have to be done right away?

    -6* F here this morning. Furnace did kick on to assist overnight. Just loaded with Sugar Maple and Honey Locust with a couple stix of Hop Ironwood thrown in for good measure.

    -17F here at 6:45 AM. Coldest I've seen since the 90's. Boiler kept up overnight. Clear & calm outside, will re load with Oak for the day. Dogs didn't stay out long.

    -11F and looking for a big warmup today. I believe the morning news mentioned 10F. Above zero! Hmmm? Where are my shorts and sandals:)
    Cranking the stove wide open for a couple hours to chase the morning chill . Feels nice. Elm, Hackberry and a few chunks of Cottonwood on deck. Definitely working through a strange part of the wood stash! Burns just fine.

    As the fire gets down to the coaling stage or maybe just a bit before the wood has broken apart, this is the time to open the draft. With my stove and with most, I open the draft fully. You actually will not lose much heat up the chimney but will burn those coals down, making the next load easier to load.

    Another thing that can cause big chunks of charcoal is burning wood that is just a tad too high in moisture. I've never had a problem when burning good dry wood. One more plus for the 3 year plan.

    Our little Fireview does very well but -28 is the coldest we've had with this stove. It was a bit difficult keeping the house to our normal 80 degrees though that night and day.

    This morning it was -14 and the house temp at 79.

    We must be on the same schedule OWB does a good job keeping up with it.
    14* when I got up this morning Red Maple keeping things going got up to 41* yesterday.

    I feel like the lucky guy to have 19° temp after a 50° day yesterday. Stove has been choochin since last night. Sitting at 72° inside and I’m staying inside.

    Mornings like this always reminds me of those days when we got up around 5:00, fixed the stove then went out to milk the cows. Back then we kept the cows in all day and night so it was not so cold in the barn but cold enough we still wore coats. Getting insilage though was a problem because so much froze so solid we could only dig in the center.

    3F silver maple and really need to upgrade but will need to go outside to make it happen.

    We got down to -8 last night. Wasn't expecting that cold so didn't load the boiler full. Checked it this AM and have a giant bed of coals....going to let those burn down all day and reload tonight.

    Went from -17 this AM to 30 briefly today. 43 degree temp gain in a few hours was pretty impressive, felt warm out by comparison. 11 now with Oak & Elm loaded for overnight.

    Finally warmed up a bit today to the mid teens so I went out to cut split and stack some mill ends. I'm on the 1 week plan here, boys! It's actually not so bad; these slabs have been stacked 3 years so they're plenty dry. Got a load of walnut going. Keeping the stove room around around 73.

    Anyone else feel like this is a true, old school winter? This is how I remember winters when I was a kid back in the 80s/90s.

    It's 8.1 tonight, I have five rounds of ironwood with two splits of beech in the Lopi Liberty and a bag of pellets in the old yankee going in the basement.
