BTDT cut every weekend just to have wood to burn. "It sucks" stay with it things will get better and before you know it you will be on the Three year plan. Well maybe! I am still trying to get there! Welcome aboard Prometheus
First time in 3 or 4 winters we will be getting some real snow! Supposed to get 8-11 inches and temps are in the middle teens. Been burning red oak all week as its been cold and cloudy.
Finally warming up a little. 3° out 74° in the stove room. Ash in the quadrafire now. It's going to snow a little tonight. 2-4" they say. Now Chicago is getting dumped on. Some places a foot or so there. We lucked out, and the only reason we're getting snow is lake effect from the back end of the storm swirling over the mostly unfrozen lake Michigan. Inland 10 mines or so, they might not get any snow at all.
Here in Connecticut we're forecasted to hit 50 + degrees tomorrow ... Followed by a 30 degree drop in temperature overnight.
Weather here is a bit unpleasant. 10F with a nasty NE wind & heavy snow. -10~ windchill. I don't mind the cold or snow, but an east wind screws everything up, snow drifts off the plow banks & will fill the drive & parking lot up to 2-3' deep. Double stacked the boiler with Elm & White Oak again tonight. Better get an early start tomorrow. Edit: 4-6" of snow predicted by morning.
30 degrees and icy. I cleaned out the stove after having it sit idle since Monday morning. Just brought it back to life with Ash and Black Locust for the overnight shift. No burning tomorrow as it’ll be about 50 degrees out. Supposed to cool down promptly afterwards, then it’s back to keeping the fire stoked around the clock. Still sitting confidently on more than enough dry wood to carry us into spring.
Currently -8 outside... could drop a few more by sunrise... but 70 in the house and raising.... Got the belly of the beast full of hedge... This should be the last of the ultra cold stuff... should start slowly raising to a whole 32F by possible Friday... Almost shorts and t-shirt weather....
Remember that. snow comes usually with east wind before it shifts usually to a NW wind. One has to plan ahead even when plowing snow.
Its been sitting at 10 since 11:00 last night. Looks like our first thaw next Monday. In just a bit, after sunrise I'll head out to shove some white stuff around. Not sure how much we got but it is not a disaster.
10 and 73. BL coals in the basement stove and A small hackberry Fire going upstairs. I’m not sure how much snow we got, guessing 12 or so. No working today, this is a big snow for us.
About 10" of snow here, cars are buried in the lot. All plowed, gotta go push back piles now. 7F with a stiff wind still. Time to get to work. Boiler loaded with Oak.
It's a heat wave here, phone was showing -16 when I got to work this morning, much better then yesterdays -46. Going to to 11 today, first time getting above 0 in over a week. Oak and birch in the OWB.
-29f air temp this morning in Nebraska. Running my basement, old 1003c earth stove as hot as I can with some hackberry and ash and the gas furnace still seems to shut off for only a couple minutes at a time every hour or so. We’ve been in a cold spell for a couple weeks. 30 by the weekend will feel amazing!
