We got some ice last night, a coating on everything, took me about 15 minutes to even get in the suburban, and that was after having the remote start on for a cycle. Roads are ok for now. But...we are supposed to get hammered by a big ice storm tomorrow into Sunday. They're saying worse one since 1998, and that was a doozy. Really hoping they miss the forecast, or we're gonna be screwed. The power companines have been triming trees more along the lines for the last couple years, but still....

The only time I wish for snow, is when they're calling for ice. I'm wishing for snow. Not sure if any other members are in the crosshairs, but good luck and be careful....

Supposed to get nasty here this weekend. I’m not a fan of ice either.

    Fitting?

Best wishes going out to everyone that might get affected. The one silver lining is there could be abundant opportunities in the aftermath to hoard some serious firewood :)

Hahaha, that's one way to look at it. But I'd rather keep my power, and I have more wood now than I can cut.... I'm also not looking forward to limbs/trees on the fences and having to chase cows.....

Forecast says it's possible here in the coming days . Just have to wait and see what actually happens , a little early tp tell what we get in the end.
Sometimes they are right and other times missed it by a long shot. Looks like a week of mixed whatever.
Ready for whatever we get but also ready to get back to the wood.

I don’t ever want to relive January of 1998. Places around here were wiped out for months without power or drivable roads. I can remember just driving over power lines and broken trees for days on end. Called the FD a few times when poles were on fire.

Up here in northern NY, the 1998 ice storm had places getting 3 to 4 inches of ice, hopefully your area received less.

    Stay Safe.

I remember coming home the first day after work, needed gas and no place had power anywhere around. Found one station open and waited for the longest time to get to the pumps in line. Got home we were powerless, told my wife I’d take her to her sisters for the night because they had power and if all else failed had wood heat. 12 miles each way took a couple hours for he round trip. I got lucky though because when I got home a good sized birch tree had broken and landed exactly where my 3 month old truck usually was parked. We lived in Hampden at that time and were on an intersection. The power lines made the corner heading towards Belfast. Little did we know that was a main feed line to Belfast and hydro kept hat going at all costs. We would lose power for hours on end but they would get it going long enough to get the house warmed back up and get a shower and maybe cook supper before it would go down again. Poor guy next door, literally 100 feet away, went almost 3 weeks. We strung a couple cords from our house to his to get his fridge cold and what not. That was the chittiest couple weeks we ever dealt with around here.

Wife is from Sherman, her dad was complaining how bad it was there he had to take out a big pine that was beside the truck garage before it crashed on the roof. I
laughed my azz off at him. And how many inches of ice did you get in 5 straight days? About an inch he said and it’s bad. He came down that next weekend and just turned around and went home once he realized how bad it really was. We tried to explain to our daughter a couple years ago when we had a decent sized winter storm and she thought we were lying to her. Had to show her pictures front the internet before she got it.

Amen. Not all folks realize that. They think farming is always glamorous and such hahaha. I can only imagine having to go after them in the woods, with ice and limbs popping all around.

Water is in jugs and pots. Got my saws and gear on the screened porch in case i cant get into detached garage. Barely got into my truck while ago to get my chaps...had to chip the ice from the door crack and pry it open. Trying not to break any door handles like on my car the other year.

They're saying .25 to .5 in.of freezing rain. Thats on top of the .2 or .3 that we have now. Even the weather folks are hoping that they will be wrong and it will be 2-3 degrees warmer.
