4F here this morning, got to 24 today, so that felt good! Light wind. Been burning an Oak & Ash mix. Pulled two stone cold cars from outside & the heaters ran for 25 min straight. Boiler kicked on at 170 & burned for 3 hrs. straight to maintain temp. Gonna try Rope 's "wall method" to see what happens.

I positioned my OWB so the only an east wind (not very common) would have any affect on the burn while the draft damper is open.

And even then, it is situated so the storage shed would break the east wind and get it confused enough to not have much of an affect on the burn rate. The shed is probably 20' or so away.

14 years at this location and the largest factor affecting the burn rate would be the sustained sub zero temps.

We hardly get wind to speak of here at the house, but walking up the front sure slows down the natural draft that the louvers 3rows of 4 that below the auto draft. That lower section is free to move air, so I whooo it down a bit, works here for me, helps the spruce last.

23 with high teens expected by dawn. Ash and black locust doing the bull work with mimosa lending a few BTUs to the overnight haul.

-4F and 63F. Cranked up the stove fans with 2 additional Elm splits for coal melting. Feels wonderful. Single digits above and below for highs, and down to teens below zero for lows for days to come.
Finally burning the last of my cord and a half stash of mixed hardwood that was just outside my back door. 2/3 of a cord of predominately Elm is up next on my front porch.
    Stay warm everyone.

-35 this morning low. I'm burning half loads every 4 hours to keep the coaling down and for a more even heat.
