couple hours in the neighbors woods culling some hickory's that are crowding some ancient bur oaks. More to get.
Would be a good time to do some moisture content research. We have discussed the reduced moisture when a standing tree is cut after several days of cold. Curious to see what content was after cutting and how soon a hickory is seasoned.
I will split some tomorrow and see what it is. Going to -5 here tonight. Need to warm it some to test it. Don't plan to burn it for at least 2 years.
This year is the first time in at least 10 years I've had hickory to put in my stacks. Between a Chip Drop and a neighbor that needed a tree removed for a new garage, I have almost 2 cord of hickory. I'm looking forward to lighting off a stove load....in about 4 years!

Snow is at least a foot here, drifts obviously deeper. Makes everything more difficult. My neighbor and I work together quite a bit with wood hoarding, I have a Kubota and he has a bobcat skid steer which is incredibly helpful. Sorry to hear you are temporarily out of business. You guys got whacked too last week. We have several small snow events coming over the next week. UGH.

Mmmm Hickory in the stove! We've got about the same amount of snow, maybe a bit more. I've gotta get back to skidding, & yes it does go slower, but equipment is where it's at.
Nice place to saw! Love it when there is easy access. SB has been kickin’ out the serious btu’s for us lately. I’d never turn down a nice hickory score. Hoard on!!
Not too scientific, but split some of this hickory, warmed it to maybe 50F and tested it. Anywhere from 19 to 26%. Lower than I expected. Again, not too scientific.
