Not bad. That is the one you got for free right? Diesel at $3.71 a gallon?! Wow! I don't even get off road fuel that cheap here.

Yep… this is the 'free' truck…. with air fare ($218.00), some pre-trip repairs ($485.00) and fuel $600.00+) for the return trip I have about $1,600.00 invested. The truck is an '88 with a 460 and C-6 trans with a 4.10 limited slip rear. The 'giver-awayer' thought it was a Supercab so the crew cab deal was a pleasant surprise. I wanted a truck to haul pellets, my race car trailer and general heavy duty duties. This won't be a daily driver. I was supposed to fly in on Tuesday and leave on Wednesday but that didn't happen. The truck had been sitting 10 years (not the 3 years I had been told)… no big deal. But we had to replace the front tank fuel pump, the fuel pump relay, front brake pads, rear brake shoes, two wheel cylinders, the battery and a couple small items. I still have a small list of things that need attention… front windows don't roll down, the trailer cord plug is gone, the power rear pass-thru window is stuck, two tires are out of round… stuff like that. but it's an original California rust free truck so it's worth every penny. I got a high of 11.1 mpg on the return trip… the 10 year old gas that was in the front tank only got me 7.0!!! Most guys would have drained that tank but the shop I was at didn't have any way of disposing of the old gas… so I ran it down the road for a few miles and put some fresh stuff in every 50 miles or so… it worked out OK.
Here's a few scenic pics from the trip home. When I was trucking I always thought the American west was utterly beautiful… I had almost forgotten how much I missed running out there for 40+ years.

I have no doubt. My 250 SD took two. Just couldn't swing the fuel these days so I had to down size to a putt putt. Wife gets the f150 cause she worked close to home. She might get a putt putt too if the new job is farther away!!
Nice pics...we lived in southern NM and I spent 4 years on the road doing 1k miles a week..lots of beautiful scenery, and not many people. I miss the sunsets.
