Thanks, between covid and winter I've got cabin fever bad, and will use any excuse to post a pic of warmer days doing what I love.

 

Route 100 is a fun ride as well.....I'm told. Thanks for that nice inside info on the AS. I'm leaning........

 

Well it sure has been a while. I have not been on since last spring. Been real busy setting up for retirement and general contracting the new house. All is going great. Here are some before and afters of the site clearing. Karen and I did it all. For a couple 60 somethings, it was quite a job!

I figure I got about 5 cords bucked up. The problem is that it's mostly poplar and white pine. Some of our time this summer will be spent splitting and stacking it.

Any wood is good wood. Like the guys out west say "If we didn't burn pine, we wouldn't burn anything." it's what they got.

It's fun burning various different wood types.

 

I'm with you Oldhippie. If it burns, it's OK by me. My excavator guy tells me that three more big poplars are impinging on our upcoming driveway/parking/woodshed area. There's another cord of the stuff. Looks like I'll be burning poplar and pine for the first year or two.

 

Without looking at all the replies I’d recommend a Fireview. Soapstone is the way to go. In tighter confines the “soft heat” of soapstone is much appreciated. It won’t drive you away from the stove making the space unlivable. Not sure how the science works but it emanates around the house much better than steel or cast with even heat instead of hot here cold there.

I experimented with a steel, then cast, then stone (Fireview) in my upstairs install. The Fireview won the contest but was a little too small for the whole house. I ended up with a PH.

PS. I’m not rich. First stove was free. Cast iron was $150. Then I won a Fireview in almost unused condition for $220 on eBay. I actually felt a little bad about that steal

 

Great area to build! We have a weekend place just a bit south east of you. We’re just north of Brattleboro; not too far from the old Maple Valley ski area.

 

I purchased a beautiful refurbished Hearthstone One from a gentleman in Vermont who refurbishes them.This is a heating machine and cost me $ 1200.00 plus shipping.I get 14 hours of good heat from this stove.Best stove I've ever had.I've been burning since 1962.If interested I'll look up his number.
