Thought I would share a pic of a black locust burn on this snowy February day. I love how this wood burns in my stove. Long burn times, beautiful orange to dark blue flames and waking up in the morning to a hot bed of coals. Hope you guys are staying warm, what are you guys burning right now.

Mostly red oak, with a piece of BL now and then.

Was shoveling this morning. I had black cherry and black locust in the stove. I could tell when it was the black locust burning. I love the way black locust splits and the btus, but man it stinks. I'll get some splits that sometimes smell like someone is burning trash.

It a country wood stove, it was a t-top model. That company got brought out I believe. It’s been a good heater no issues. I have had it about 12 years.

No complaints about the BTUs! Smell doesn't really bother me neither. You just know when the BL is burning.

The two main times I'm mixing in BL with the regular stuff is either because it's bitterly cold outside, or I'm looking for some long unattended burn times. BL coals up like a dream and pushes out heat for hours. I wish I had more that was ready this year but I'm happy to have any at all really. This is my first year burning it.

I went after a lot of Locust this past summer that looked like this:

But also ended up scoring a few loads of fresh stuff like this:

There is a lot of locust where we live. I try to cut all the standing dead I find. It’s amazing wood to burn.

I don't get a smell issue from the BL that most report. That being said, I've also hear that it is from the bark which I remove before burning.

What I do notice is that it is SPARKY! When you open the door to stir the fire, you get a pleasant surprise of sparks in the face!
