    Still doesn't cover the minimum R value if IIRC. My 13NC required a hearth R value of 2. I used 2 layers of Micore, a layer of Durock and then tile to achieve that.

    I believe the high R values required from the 13 and 30 were due to them being much closer to the floor than their newer model. The new models are much taller. I'd bet that if you added 6" to the height of both stoves, the 13 and 30, you could get away with just an "ember protection" hearth.

    JMNTBHO though.

    Not cement board...2-3 layers of that special insulation board...the name escapes me at the moment...they don't give it away though! Cement board had too low of an R value...I mean it would work, but you'd need a whole bunch of layers...
    Edit: Micore is the product name...which I see now that MW just beat me too it (the name) :)

    What ever the stuff is called, build it once and build it right to conform to value needed. :handshake:
