A lot of people will never understand the concept of burning season wood. When I first got started burning I soon realized if I was going to burn wood to stay warm I was going to have to get ahead on my
Wood supply and that meant cutting it myself and stockpiling. Around here all your guys that sell firewood don’t understand what truly season mean. So my advice don’t throw your pearls to the swine. Can’t fix stupid.

Maybe the best interview question before buying wood from a local seller would be "do you burn wood full time, (as in a wood stove/furnace, for heat, not in a fireplace/for ambiance, or in a OWB) and if so, are you burning the same "seasoned" wood that you are selling me?"
If they tell you yes, (and are telling the truth) then you are probably OK...because it takes somebody pretty stupid to try full time wood heating burning "seasoned"/wet wood!
But my guess is there are not many of these guys that burn their own product...or they would just lie to you.

I think anyone selling seasoned wood should be subject to inspection.
And held accountable because the result is a black eye to all of us. If it's wet say so and educate the customers on buying ahead of time. And if it's dry, truly seasoned then a educated consumer should be willing to pay a bit more.

I used to think all of my standing dead elm was good to go as soon as I cut it. But you people and a moisture meter have taught me otherwise

If its not ready to burn off the stump, it wont take long, thats what I love about dead standing Elm plus it splits easier by that time and it starts and burns very well.

I like the craigslist sellers with "seasoned wood" that can be cut to the customer's desired length.

I had someone tell me they were concerned about my heating for the year because my 3 year maple would burn too fast.

Down yonder a spell from me is as landscape company making a killing selling wood from trees cut over the summer and split the day before delivery.
Tree service has a "seasoned wood" sign always up and the wood is split and sold literally as they cut the trees and haul them back.

my neighbor a few houses away burns the uglies and trash from what I can see from the road (dont know the guy) I dont know his seasoning methods, but they are a family of rocket surgeons from what I know, so its probably fresh split.

My father in law got some "seasoned" firewood this year. He burns for the ambiance more than heat in his fireplace. My sons helped stack it and my oldest said, there's no way it was dry. He said it was really heavy. Christmas comes along and he has afire going. We're sitting there and my son says, " watch out. I think you have a nest of snakes in the fireplace with all that hissing going on." Than he looked at me and said, " told you it wasn't dry" I just smiled and :zip:.

Don't know why father in law didn't ask me for some firewood. Oh yeah, I remember now, I don't know what I'm doing.o_O

Often times can't fix stupid...especially once its "aged" a bit...:picard: ;)
(not saying old people are stupid...just that once people get away with stupid stuff for some time, you often can't tell them any different)
