Pro sports is entertainment as Horkn said. Whether you choose to allow the perceived politicalness of the sport get in the way of your enjoyment of the sport is a personal decision, it comes across as a bit sanctimonious, I watch it because I enjoy the sport of it and life is too short to let political BS get in the way of doing what you enjoy.

Rats are too smart for their own good. A trap may be your best bet, but they’ve outsmarted them too. Good luck.

Interesting. I wouldn't doubt OSHA stepped in at some point. The people that put them together surely got cut up years ago.

It's snowing and been snowing for a while. I haven't seen what the weather guessers are saying now, and I really don't care. I'll have to deal with clearing the driveway when it's done, and I'm good with that. One of these days I'll fix the recoil rope on my newer snowblower. There must've been a sharp edge on the housing because it cut that rope pretty easily. I'll need to find the sharp part and fix that too, otherwise it's will happen again really shortly. That happened just after warranty ran out. Briggs cutting corners, but it sure does run nicely. It has electric start, so it's really just a slight inconvenience, until the power goes out. Then I'll use the jump pack.

Ok, so apparently we have 6-8" of snow already, and are supposed to get another few more inches by end of day. I've got a headlight on my snowblower. I don't care.:)

Burning 2+ year old New England hardwood, mainly oak in the Fireview and AS, but the AS isn't as 24X7. 15'F here this morning and clear but the forecast of light snow for the coming 24 hours. It's been a mild winter, very little snow. Retired, the wife and I are just hangin' round the shantee chillin', drinking good coffee, listening to mix of classic jazz and classic rock and folk.

I'm hoping some of you FHC guys might help me with a big buy decision. Point me to a better thread if you know of one.

I need a new oil burning furnace. It's time. This Peerless has lasted me 35 years but it's been leaking at least 25 of them. I'd like to get some advice from you knowledgeable guys, as I'm looking at a System2000 EK1 but it is $2K more than the traditional oil burning furnace. The older Peerless/Beckett burners feel like yesteryear technology. I know for new housing air pump heat is the way to go, but already having oil, and not really using it for heat as much as we use it for hot water for showers, laundry etc, already having forced hotwater 2 zone plumbing through the house, this System2000 seems like the way I might go, but it's $9K over $7K.

Anyone have any experience with this type of technology? I'm looking to get some experience and info from someone that doesn't have skin in the game.

Thanks for any advice or a pointer to a different thread? I maybe should have searched around a bit more.

Watching my buddy Tom Brady going to the Super bowl again. (what else is new besides his uniform) the Patriots can go home and watch it with their families. Bucs vs Kansas, have they started the celebration in Kansas City already? Here's a tip for them, never underestimate Tom Brady and they might have a chance.

It depends how hungry they are. Any bait that they can't carry away gives you a chance to get a shot at them. Another good bait is to break a raw egg on the ground. It is worth a try.

I can't see that unit being worth the extra money, especially since you mainly use it for DHW, and a little supplemental heat.
I'd just look for a decent "cold start" unit (that will help with the leaking issue in the future too) and then make sure they don't "oversize it" on you...which plenty of HVAC guys will do...they size things to make sure that it can handle worst case scenario temps/load, and then some...especially pay attention if you have beefed up insulation/windows/etc over the years...they often want to put back the same size you have, or larger.
$7k to replace yours with a traditional boiler sounds high BTW...

Good thoughts, thank you. I got another quote for $6400, but when I asked him for that quote in writing he said "no, just let me know what you decide".

Great point about the oversizing. I have beefed up much of my insulation etc. However, I do want to design for no wood burning, as there is always a possibility I pass away to the promise land, and my wife wants to still live here but doesn't want to burn. That is a likely sceanario but neither is in bad health today she is mid 70s and I'm 71.

It's actually hard to get HVAC businesses to find the time to do a quote. They're all so busy. If I was a young guy today I'd definitely be going in the right direction going to tech high-school and becoming a plumber. I know two my son's age and they drive Tesla's and seem to be doing very well.

We have some nice Energy programs here in Mass. Rebates to upgrade to new heat sources, and also a 0% interest loan for 7 years with flat monthly payback on any energy savings projects. So this qualifies for a $1K rebate on the boiler, it could be more on a heat-pump system, but I think that would be a big dollar initial install.

So....some old lady crashed her rav4 into the 2 ton international that delivers our baked goods. With enough force to knock some of the load out on the ground, and thew the driver, standing in the cube of the truck, off his feet and into the wall. Rav4 is a write off by the looks of it. Crazy that she was able to build enough speed to do that damage in a relatively small parking lot. Best I can tell, seems she floored the gas instead of applying the brake...

No not osha. They stopped making stuff out of stamped sheet metal and went to plastic due to gas mileage rules. In order to get the structural strength of 12 gauge steel you need 1 inch of whatever form of plastic. Not a very sharp edge on that. Made it worse in a way to access things.
