3 cords for 450

To the OP, just curious, how did you come up with that being 3 cords? How big is a cord to you?

 

This is 2 cord, 8' box and 18' trailer.

 

Wow are you sure your not too cheap and 50 mile radius. Thats $1200 here

 

18 cubic yard load
18 cubic yard = 486 cubic feet per load (1cy = 27cf)

At 180cf per tossed full cord of 16" splits:
486 cf / 180cf per cd = 2.7 full cords

Now, if your customers are happy, I guess ok, but 18 cubic yards of tossed wood is equal to 2.7 full cords, not 3 full cords.

Your actual price/full cord is $167. ($450/2.7 = ~$167)

Still a good price around here, but not quite as advertised.

 

I have to agree that it looks short of 3 cords. But......

there is a company around here that will deliver by the dump load like that. I mentioned to the owner that it may come up short....?? He said it is just about dead on and if after stacking it I feel I was shorted, he would deliver the remainder to even it up. I thought this was a nice gesture to make things right but I'm thinking he'll probably remember that next time you call and order.

No, I didn't buy any loose loaded (skid steer with bucket) dump truck from him. I grabbed loaded my own trailer loads.

I should mention also that he does sell by face cords, not full cords. This is how it has always been sold (firewood) in this area.

These two 5 X 10 trailer loads were $50 each. /they are cut offs from the firewood processor he uses..

 

I guess the point I was trying to make is that if people are happy paying 450 for that amount of wood, you're doing OK!

But it just looks short of 3 cord and I wouldn't be calling it three cord.

I agree that a tri-axle does not hold three full cords. We use/have used trucks ranging form one tons, to large six wheelers, to ten wheelers, to triaxles. Even with sideboards, 3 cords would have to be mounded imo. At 450 dollars delivered its a great deal for the buyer though. Even if you figured 2.5 cords, its only $180/cord split and delivered which is dirt cheap for most areas.

I agree I'd advertise it as a tri-axle load of wood, not X amount of cords, to avoid potential legal issues down the road. Good luck with your business. Sounds like you're building up a good customer base.

Nah, those are probably full cords.

That's still a good deal though.

 

So I have someone with 3/4 cord of year old Aspen half-rounds looking to get rid of it for $150. It’s seems a little expensive...and I don’t know much about burning Aspen.

That's $200 per cord. Way too much for aspen IMHO

Sure is! At that price, Ill come pick it up at your place and drive it down the road and sell it for almost twice as much! There’s a guy on YouTube that actually does that

 

Lot of sketchy people in the firewood business. Just about everyone I sell to has a story! I’d rather throw a little extra in and never hear from them till they want more.
