Some great pics there Husky Man.

I burned a lot of cottonwood too. I have found here in Wyoming if stacked up off the ground and split that it will last for years. I had some for over 4 years sitting out in the open with no signs of rot.
Could be it depends on where you live. This cottonwood I just got will not be burned for at least 3 years if not more after I split and stack it. Like Sinngetreu mentioned the 3 year plan. Can't beat it.

I forgot to mention I do have a spot south west of Laramie that I cut lodge pole every summer.

I agree. Like you, we have very little humidity in Colorado. I’ve got cottonwood in my stacks that’s pushing 5 years old. No rot whatsoever.

We get LOTS of Rain here on Mt. Hood, but even in the Portland area, it is just too Wet to leave Cottonwood exposed to the weather, it would simply never dry out, and wet, rotting Cottonwood STINKS to High Heaven

I Wish that I had better access to Lodgepole, where that is, is simply too far to justify going, just for Firewood. My Mom inherited a small property in La Pine, OR from her Parents, I have taken my 6x12 Tandem axle trailer when we have gone there, and I can load over 2.5 cords on it. Lodgepole is a Good burning wood, and Smells Nice too, in a stack and in a fire

yowser, looking at some of your pictures, there aren’t many trees in your area.

    Doug

Yep that was a old Ford backhoe that I picked up for 8000 dollars, I think it was a 1974. I had to do some work to it but it does real well for me.

It is pretty dry here. High plains.
